One more town. Perhaps this one will keep me?
A cold wind blew through the streets. The warm summer months had come and gone and now winter was on its way. It was nearly dark now. The sky was painted with some of the same brilliant hues that seemed to touch the trees, but there were also many more. It looked like the blues and purples were now battling for their place in the sky. On Earth, things were calm. There was a strange silence in the garden. The inhabitants of the town were all in their homes and things were quiet, and there were no more prying eyes.
Just then, as the sun was nearly complete in it's descent below the horizon, a new face appeared in town. A clacking noise seemed to follow the stranger as she walked down the path in the garden she had found herself in. She was a pretty animal. Her pelt was a little dusty, but the bright white was still eye catching. And the brown patches of fur on her eyes, shoulders and back were stunning. Thin, pointed antlers stood about a foot on her head. They still had pieces of velvet hanging from them. The animal was a caribou, and a caribou far from home. She was wearing a white traveling cloak that stuck out against the shadows in the garden. Under the cloak, however, she had a small leather bag snugly attached around her waist. There was not much in the bag, you could tell from the slight jingle, but she held it to her as if it were made of gold.
She gripped her walking stick as she continued to walk down the path. She saw a bench and, exhausted, sat down. She let out a sigh and closed her brown eyes. This was the first time in months that she had any rest. She opened her eyes after a few moments. She saw something out of the corner of her eye, and turned to look. There was nothing there. Then something touched her ear. She laughed. It was a piece of velvet hanging from her antler. She picked it off and threw it to the ground and sighed once more.
For some reason, the thought of journeying to a new place and starting a new life outside he old one was not as exciting as she had hoped it would be. Now she had to worry about where she would stay and what she would eat. She had no money. She looked down. What was she going to do?
