Name: Klaus Volker Klein (He goes by his middle name which is pronounced FOLK-er. His first name is the name of his father, who he was named after,)
Gender: Male
Type: Animal
Species: Banded Linsang (I found one of these in a book and instantly had inspiration. I'm so excited about Volker.)
Age: (Very little is known about Linsangs, so no one is certain of how long they live. In human years, he's in his early thirties)
Position: Neutral. Volker owns a couple humans, but that's because he enjoys their company more than the company of animals. Not to mention the joy he gets in teaching them.
Lifestyle: Volker is a private tutor, often teaching the children of rich animals. Although it doesn't happen often, the occassional client will hire him to teach a trusted human as well. Volker prefers teaching them to teaching the animals because humans, for the most part, seem to view the opportunity to learn as a privledge instead of a chore.
Residence: Reveerie, to be nearer to his students. He dislikes the atmosphere of the town as a whole, though. Too many people in the area profit off of their humans, when the humans themselves despise it.
Description: Volker has slick, velvety tan fur with bands of black on his tail, and splotches along his back. He has a slender snout, and fairly long neck. With his tail, Volker is about 30 inches, his tail making up about a third of his body length.
He has a cresent moon shaped marking atop his head, and a marking right above it that appears to be a star. This initially sparked his interest in basic astrology as a child, which led to the rest of his scholarly background.
Most of his kind are very graceful, but Volker tends to be clumsy, at the least. Honestly, he can't control his slender body, and often stumbles and trips more than one would expect.
Personality: Volker is definitely the scholarly type, and usually keeps to himself. He adores literature and astronomy, and usually spends his free time categorizing different plant species in his garden or studying in his garden.
This does not mean, however, that Volker is antisocial. In fact he does enjoy conversing with others. His students, human and animal are his family. He loves them more than anything in the world, and is truly himself around them.
In all honesty, Volker is a bit of a goof. He's uncoordinated, clumsy, and repeats just about everything he says habitually. He paces when he talks, and is often nervous around those he doesn't know well. Still, Volker is the definition of the word "lovable". Even though he's very intelligent, he has no social skills. It irks some people, but most just instinctually like the man.
He's very patient. (He has to be; he's a teacher) But if you get him going on a subject he feels strongly about, he's definitely one to argue his point. Such as the abuse of humans. Volker doesn't have a huge problem with owning humans if they're treated with dignity. In fact, he'd be fine with humand owning animals as long as both parties are happy. When people start playing God is when Volker gets worked up.
Basically, Volker is a lot like a kid. As smart as he is, unless he's around those wo know him, he becomes quiet, reserved, and as hard as it is to fathom, even more clumsy than he already is.
Wardrobe: Volker wears a small, grey waist coat and a simple black tie. He also has a pair of round spectacles that usually wind up sliding down his snout. He has a nervous habit of pushing them back up his nose multiple times when he's around someone that makes him feel uncomfortable.
History: Volker's family was originally from Germany. They moved when he was five, but he has retained a slight German accent.
Volker led a happy childhood. His family wasn't rich, but money was never a problem. His parents were always supportive of him and his love of learning, which developed at a young age. His father always joked about how he had to have the one little boy on the block who would rather read in his room than play sports, but all Volker always knew it was meant in a loving, jocular manner.
His family owned one human, Anna who helped with little chores around the house and took care of Volker when his parents had to be somewhere else, but she was treated more like a daughter than a "slave". Really, if Anna had said she was unhappy, the Kleins probably would have let her leave and do as she pleased with sad hearts.
Volker, therefore, didn't necesarily see a problem with owning humans as long as they were happy, but when he saw broken humans with scars running along their bodies walking the street it created an intense anger within him. He grew up with this belief, and has stuck with it.
He's lived a rather normal, happy life thus far. After leaving home, he travelled the world a bit to expand upon his knowledge of astronomy and classic literature before moving to Reveerie to settle in and begin his his living tutoring; how he still lives today.
