The sun shone down on the market with vigor on the fine Saturday afternoon. The streets bustled noisily, and officers seemed to be around every bend. Chaos would be an understatement.
The market was rarely ever so busy as it was on weekends, and today even seemed busy for a Saturday. Four hundred? I'll take my business elsewhere. A fine runner for sale! Lean and from excellent bloodlines! Practically giving this fine young man away! Wonderful boxer! The bartering was music to the small cat's ears. This was her life on Saturdays. Most of the time, she simply came to look and compare prices, just to stay competitive. But other times, like today, Barbara brought her own merchandise along.
Her eyes wandered over to the small girl who was sitting in her cage, eyes widening at the sight. "Look sharp, girl," she commanded, straightening her own posture as well to set an example. Barbara hoped she'd sell today. The market was nice and all, but not when you had to stand in the heat until someone made you a decent offer.
The girl stood taller within her cage, her big eyes attempting to take everything in. Signs of sunburn had already begun to show on her face and shoulders, but Lil didn't mind. She was outside. Gosh, it was nice out here, not to mention her new dress. Miss Barabara had given her a new one just for the occasion. It was a simple brown one, but Lilith adored it. It was so much nicer than that old, ratty one.
Her curls lay peacefully on her shoulders as she craned to see into the crowds. A gentle smile was mounted on her lips. finally she'd be going home today, wherever "home" may be. "Miss Barbara, when will someone buy me?" she asked earnestly. "Hush, girl!" the ocelot scolded, "Never if you speak out of turn in such a way."
Lil sighed. She had to remember Miss Barbara's rules. Miss Barbara knew best. If she didn't listen, no one would want her, and Lil didn't want that at all. So she held her head high and stood perfectly still, still amazed by the vastness of the outside world.

The great bull's mahogany orbs flitted through the crowd, taking in every face carefully. His right ear flicked off an aggravating fly. Apart from the annoying buzz the insect produced, he could hear the normal mundane chatter of the crowd, that milled around. Talk of prices, bloodlines, and background on the humans they sold.
It was rare to see Houdini at the sales. He did not relish attending the sales, and usually only did so because he was on guard duty. Today's reason for attending them, was to pick up another human for his wife. Their old house keeper had contracted some sort of deadly disease, and, not wanting it to be spread to the other slaves, Houdini had dispatched him. Today he was looking for something young, healthy, and reasonably priced. He wasn't going to hand over oodles of money, just for a human with good bloodlines, that was going to be stuck doing house and garden work. He wasn't the type to show, fight, or box humans. It was all a useless gamble; win money, lose more.
Despite the warm sun beating down mercilessly upon the crowd, he did not pull off the black leather jacket. His normal gear was attached to his belt, and his knife to the thigh. Squinting in the bright rays, he spotted what looked like a prospect, and trudged towards them.
The ocelot looked like she was reprimanding a small, young child in her cage. He walked slowly through the crowd, as thick as flies buzzing over a corpse.
“What are ya sellin' today cat?” he asked, examining the small girl.
((ooc: sorry it's such a crappy reply. >.< Didn't have a lot of time to work on it))

Barbara's ears pricked up at the sound of an approaching customer, and she smiled politely in preparation. He was a nice looking bull, obviously involved in law enforcement by the look of his apparel. Wonderful. She loved selling to officers and the like. They were always a trustworthy lot, as she had learned from experience.
“What are ya sellin' today cat?”
Barbara smiled wider at the question, pleased that there was at least some interest in the girl. "A fine young human girl. Very obedient, let me assure you, and she comes from excellent bloodlines. It's hard to tell now, but I'd bet my bottom dollar she'd make a nice show human when she aged a bit, if that matters to you. Good for work around the house, and perhaps outside as well once some time passes. Not quite strong enough for that at the moment, but her father was tough and hardy. She'll shape up quite nicely. One of my finer humans this year," she said with a nod. Talking about her stock always brought out Barbara's more talkative side, considering the pride she took in it.
Lil was quite relieved that someone had shown interest in her as well, excited at the idea of going off to her new master's house. Would he be her new master? Would he be interested in purchasing her, or was he simply browsing? Either way, she had to make herself look presentable.
She flattened out her dress, removing a few small wrinkles that had formed in it and straightened up her posture after realizing she had slouched slightly and being careful not to look the bull in the eye out of respect. The heat really was beginning to make her dizzy, but Lil dare not utter a word of complaint. If she did, the man interested in her would certainly leave, and that would not make Ms. Barbara happy at all.

A note about Houdini. Bulls naturally have short tempers. Their species is easily irritated. Do or say the wrong thing and they might completely ignore it, or blow up and be looking for blood. Patience ties in with the subject as well. And to be honest, Houdini is not the most patient creature in the world, and he will probably never be the most patient creature in the world. He would have preferred something a little older. Something that would be able to stand working outside through part of the day. Something that he would not have to wait on to develop and grow enough to be put to work.
He crossed his arms, surveying the girl closer. There was a slightly skeptical look in his face. His eyes narrowed as he examined her, e-raying her for blemishes.
“How old is she?” he asked. “She doesn't look as sturdy as I'd like, but she would probably grow out of it.” The last little bit was a slight mumble under his breath. He crossed his arms, and his attention turned back to the cat. “And how much do you want for this... er... human?”

Barbara watched with interest as Houdini surveyed the girl, her eyes following his own. He didn't seem thrilled, but there still looked to be a spark of interest in his eyes. Whatever was enough to get the girl sold was enough for her. Hopefully she would be able to convince him to purchase her...he seemed willing enough.
“How old is she?”
"She's nine sir," Barbara said with a nod and a habitual flick of her tail. "Her stamina won't be an issue if you start her off slow and work your way up. It won't take long for the girl to adjust to your expectations." She looked to Lil expectantly, hoping the girl was acting acceptable.
Lilith kept her posture, still never looking Houdini in the eye, as tempted as she was to do so. Any unacceptable behavior could turn a buyer off, no matter how minor. She'd remembered Miss Barbara teaching her that. Oh, she hoped she'd be going off to her new home today. Lil stood straighter still, smoothing out her dress. All she had to do was behave, and she was home free....or at least, she hoped.
“And how much do you want for this... er... human?”
"I sell most of my children for $250. I consider this a reasonable price," Barbara offered, smiling. "She really is a good little girl. She'd be worth your time. If I had the room and time, I'd raise her myself, but it just isn't an option right now."

He rocked back on his heels, his arms still crossed, and weighed the options. Nine is his opinion was a little too young, but she looked reasonably well behaved. She had been quiet until now, and a house worker had been what his mate had requested. He had to admit, the price was rather tempting, as it was very reasonable. Exhaling in a rather calculating manner, he replied, “Alright, I'll take her.” Reaching into the pocket of his jacket, he pulled out the money and started counting, making sure he had the accurate amount of currency to hand over.

That sounds good. Especially since I'm a tad behind.
