It was a lovely star filled night. Pasha lay on his back on the outskirts of the rebellion camp looking up at the clear sky. His hands were tucked behind his head and he lay comfortably stretched out on the cool ground. The night was cool but not cold, just a simple night time cool. The weather had been rather nice today, that was what had motivated Pasha to stay out for the night.
He looked at the sky and found himself lost in thought. He had changed so much since coming here, he had loved and lost. His closest friend had disappeared. He had met many interesting folks but still he felt as if he was become reclusive. He didn't know why and he had not been able to work out why any other time he thought on it. He did his best to stay away from thinking on that subject any more. He simply had to get use to what he was becoming.
As he looked at the inky sky he wondered about the stars he saw. What were they? How did they get there? He wished he knew, he wish he could read and find these things out for himself. If only he had had a better upbring where he had learned these sorts of things. If he ever had children of his own, which he doubted he ever would, he would teach them these things. He would move heaven and earth to find out the answers to all their questions.
A cool breeze could be felt and Pasha shifted. He wasn't wearing his big coat for a change, but only because he had not expected a breeze to pick up. It wasn't bad though, at least not bad enough to make him feel like moving. His attention quickly shifted back to the stars. He wondered how many of them there where and if anyone had ever counted them all. How long would that have taken someone?

Not very far at all, Nahimana was walking towards a small patch of brambles that marked the edge of the camp and the beginning of the untamed forest. In the crook of one of her arms was a hand-made basket. Nahi walked about a yard away from Pasha and knelt down. She began to rustle through them, humming slightly. It appeared as if she were looking for something. Finally she let out a happy little sigh and began digging into the ground with her bare hands. Most women wouldn't like that at all, but Nahimana was far used to it. The earth was the giver of life. It provided food and even medicine. So there wasn't any reason to worry about getting dirty.
Nahimana pulled the plant she'd been searching for out of the ground, roots in all. She inspected it, searching the plant and its roots for any sign of sickness. Plants could get sick, too. Just like animals and humans. This particular plant's roots were crushed into a pulp and spread over wounds to prevent infection, while the juice in the plant itself was ingested and helped with upset stomachs. Though if the plant was sick, it was worse than poison. Finding no traces of sickness, Nahimana put it into her basket. The air was growing colder, and winter would be upon them before they could blink. She had to gather all the herbs she could, because many of them would die when the cold weather came.
"Busy busy busy." Nahimana said aloud, giggling a little.

Pasha was aware that there was another near him, he didn't know were though and paid little attention to her. He was absorbed in his thoughts at the moment. She hummed softly as she worked, gather something, what it was exactly he wasn't sure. She worked her way into this peripheral vision though, and he found it hard to ignore her. Casually he rolled over to his side to see just exactly what she was doing.
Her face was familiar, but he did not know her name. She was a pretty girl with long black hair, sun-kissed skin, and deep chocolate eyes. She worked as a heeler helping out Sadie sort of. He wasn't sure what she did exactly, but he was no good with healing or mending people. She worked quick to dig up a little plant and put it in her basket. She gave a little gigle and said what he thought was the word busy three times.
“Do you need any help?” He asked with a small smile on his lips. He was not the most out going of souls but he was more than willing to try and be helpful.

Nahimana looked up, smiling brightly at him. That was what people always remembered about her. That warm, sincere smile. "Help? Oh, yes. I'd like that. I need to gather as much as I can-winter fast approaches. And with winter comes sickness and not enough herbs to treat it." Nahimana shook her head, clicking her tongue. She did her best to help Sadie and the others of the Rebellion. And winter was always the busiest season. Many got sick, and some got caught out in the snow. Injuries often resulted from people slipping on the ice. So much could go wrong in the winter! Then again, things could go wrong in the other seasons too.
"You're...? I'm sorry, I'm terrible with names." Nahimana went back to searching through the brambles. The healer tried to learn all the names and faces, but that proved to be a difficult challenge at times. Especially since she seemed to have inheirted her mother's short memory. "I've seen you around the post once or twice, but not of the late. Have you been given an assignment that keeps you away?" Nahimana looked at him curiously. People often went in and out of the Post. Sometimes of their own will, sometimes they'd been given jobs that kept them away. It all depended.

“I'll led a hand,” he smiled warmly back to her, “I'll probably be the one who ends up needing half your herbs so I'd best help you out now.” Pasha was not the most graceful person once could meet and he hated the cold. Often he was the first person to get sick and the last to get better when winter rolled around.
He quickly got to his feet and moved to help look for whatever plant she was looking for. He realized he hadn't given her his name the moment after she asked. “I'm Pasha,” he told her quickly blushing a touch at his absent mindedness, “I'm the same way with names so it is no problem. Though I have to admit I don't seem to recall your name either.”
She mentioned seeing him only a few times and he gave a shrug. “I live around camp,” he told her, “But I spend most of my time out in the woods. I'm not a people person exactly. I've got a lot I need to think on at this point in time too so I just leave camp to think. My main job is guard duty at this point in time. I'm useless in a fight so I don't get sent on any missions, at least not alone.” He gave a small smile and a shrug as if to say what do you do.

"Whoops! Sorry. My name is Nahimana, but most around here call me Nahi." she introduced. She parted the brambles again and began to dig up a plant much like the one in her basket. She was careful not to damage the plant or the roots themselves. "Oh, I'm sure that's not true. I'd know your name if you were very clumsy or a bit sickly." Nahi paused, then contradicted herself. "Then again, I can barely remember my father's name. And I was named for him!"
Nahi giggled. She wasn't a fighter either. Luckily she made up for it in her healing abilities. "I only go out in the forest to look for plants." Though she'd lived in the forest most of her life, she was never one to explore it. All she needed to know was what growed where and what the quickest way to it was.

“Nahi,” he repeated trying to commit the name to memory, it shouldn't be too hard to do, it was a very unique name, “That is a pretty name.” He carefully kept looking for the same plant that she was but was not having the same luck as Nahi. Truth be told he really didn't know what they were looking for and he didn't want to grab the wrong plant. He was here more as a gesture than anything.
Pasha smiled as she said that she could barely remember her fathers name. It was a sad smile though, Pasha had never met his father, he didn't know a thing about the man besides the fact that he was probably tall and had blue eyes. Nahi gave a giggle and told him that she only went out into the forest to gather her herbs. “It is probably best that you aren't out here all the time,” he said with a slight smile, “This isn't the safest place to be alone, particularly for you. Not that I'm much of a protector.”
He hadn't meant to say that last bit out loud but he shrugged it off. It was true enough, he could always run decoy if he ever needed to help someone get away. He tried to change the subject quickly, and hoped she hadn't really heard the last part. “So you knew your father?” Pasha asked rather curious about how that sort of thing could happen. As far as he knew most human's barely knew their mothers, it was exceedingly rare to know your father unless you were born into the rebellion. Even then fathers were more likely to be killed than mothers.

"Thank you. I like your name. Pasha. It just has a nice ring to it." Nahimana commented. No one had ever really called her name pretty. Unusual, different, strange...never really pretty. Most took to calling her Nahi, which was easier to say than 'Nahimana.' Many just stuck to a much simpler name, Nana. Not that she minded at all. So long as she knew they were addressing her it didn't matter. Nahi noticed that Pashsa seemed a little unsure about what type of planet she was scavenging for. She held up one of the ones from her basket. "I'm looking for this...it's a pretty useful plant. It's got those oval shaped leaves and the little ridges at the edges of them. And these big roots." Nahi was just getting a few more to be safe. Though she didn't want to gather too many. Else no new plants would grow in the spring.
"It can be dangerous." Nahi agreed. She returned to sifting through the brambles. "That is true. But if you learn her secrets, sometimes you'll be spared." Her mother, who loved wandering in the forest, often told Nahi this when she was young. Nahi could only smile at Pasha. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that in a fight he'd get beat to a pulp. Pasha wasn't built like a fighter. When he was enslaved he was probably just a house servant, since he didn't seem to fit the showing possibility either. "I knew and still know my father, yes. He and my mother don't live very far. They ran away when my mother was expecting me; she was a show human, he wasn't. They didn't want to be killed, nor did they want me to be killed. So they escaped to the forest. So I was born here." Nahi gestured to the forest before them. Her mother had often taken her to the place of her birth, which had been a tiny patch covered in clovers.

Pasha smiled at the complement and was happy it was dark out. Though he was in his late twenties he was could be as bashful as a school boy when it came to little things like a kind word from a pretty girl. When she noticed he had no idea what he was looking for the dark haired Nahi pointed it out to. He gave a nod understanding what to look for a little better now. He looked through the brambles and found a plant. He proceeded to gingerly dig it up.
He smiled about the comment of the woods sparing you sometimes. That was true to his knowledge. The trees had saved him more than a few times. He had respect for the woods simply because of the wonderful cover they offered him. They let him live free after all.
“It must be nice to know them,” he said with a touch of sadness in his voice, “I know nothing about my father. I only know what my mother looks like. You are rather lucky I must say. I'd give my left hand to get a chance to talk to my folks.”

Nahi warned him lightly to not damage the roots. She looked at Pasha sympathetically. Almost all of the humans she knew were former slaves. Very few knew their families. In fact it was extremely rare. Nahimana was lucky to have not been born into slavery. She was also lucky that she knew her family. Very lucky. "Yes, I'm very blessed. I'm happy I've gotten to know them. i think it's so sad how most of the humans here don't even know what their parents look like..."
Nahimana found another plant, but it seemed young. She decided to leave it. Nahi glanced at her arms. Occasionally she'd get cuts on her arms while she was searching for herbs. She'd even happen upon a snake every now and then. That usually happened during the summer, however.

Pasha took the woman's warning to heart and handled the plant in his hands very gingerly. It saddened him to talk about families. At heart he was a family man, certainly his passion was the rebellion but that was because he was alone and adrift without it. He gave a sad nod when she spoke about her blessing of a family. “It is rather sad,” he said, trying not to think too much about it. It was wrong that little ones grew up without knowing anything about their parents, “A child should at least get to know their mother. It's only proper.”
He noticed when she looked to her arms. “Are you alright?” he asked quickly, he didn't like to see others hurt, no matter how small the injury, “Perhaps we should head back. It is getting dark and you might get hurt. Beside that you might catch a chill. That wouldn't be very good.”

"Oh?" Nahimana glanced at her arms again. She smirked, her eyes sparkling with pure amusement. "These little cuts? I'm fine, Pasha. I've seen-and had-a lot worse." She looked up at the sky. It was getting late, the moon was rising higher in the sky. "Though you're correct about the getting dark part." Nahimana straightened up. She stretched her arms up and back. Your back got cramped kneeling down like that! Nahi breifly looked over what they had gathered. It wasn't a lot, but she didn't need a lot. "I think I'm stocked, anyways. At least for this herb. I'll have to get the rest in the morning." She hugged her shawl a bit closer for warmth. It was beginning to become chilly!
"Besides, we wouldn't want YOU to get sick, would we?" the healer maiden asked. "I'd hate to see a sweet guy like you laying on one of the beds. It isn't good when you have to come see me."

He smiled sheepishly when she told him she had had worse cuts than that. “Still, you should cut up your arms like that. It can't be good for them.” He knew that it really was no big deal but he didn't like to see other people hurt no matter how small, he was not one for blood. As she stood he also rose to his feet. It felt good to be able to stand up. Sitting like he had been was not comfortable even for short bits of time. It was much nicer to be able to stretch out his legs or lay flat on his back. Nahi mentioned about getting more herbs in the morning. “I'll come with you if you would like some company,” he told her, hopefully not sounding over enthusiastic, “I mean it is much nicer to spend some time out here with others.” He thought for a second, maybe she wanted to be alone when she did this. “Unless of course you want to be alone,” he stammered, “I mean I understand that so if you want to come out alone I understand and just say that.” He should stop talking now he thought. He was making a fool of himself like he always seemed to.
He noticed that she wrapped her shawl around her a bit more closely. It was chilly, and he didn't much care for it. Still it wasn't proper for him to let her be chilly. “Would you like my jacket?” he asked, he was willing to give up his big black overcoat if she wanted it. It was awfully warm, what's more it wasn't a long walk to camp so he wouldn't miss his coat for very long.
"Besides, we wouldn't want YOU to get sick, would we? I'd hate to see a sweet guy like you laying on one of the beds. It isn't good when you have to come see me."
He smiled. It was true that it was best if he didn't end up sick in bed. He probably would come down with something though. It would probably only be for a day or so though, nothing horrid. “I'd rather see you when I was sick that a lot of other people around camp,” he smiled, not certain exactly what he meant by that. He was talking faster than he was speaking. When that happened nothing good ever came of it.

Nahimana glanced at the cuts on her brown arms. She knew that little hair-line cuts weren't very bad. Sometimes a little bacteria was good for you. Nahi could never go more than an hour without cleaning a new one, however. It wouldn't do if she, the healer, got an infection or illness. It wouldn't do at all! "I clean them regularly. Haven't had an infection yet." At least, not from the cuts on her arms. Once she'd fallen as a child and sliced open her leg. That had gotten infected. And it wasn't in the least bit of fun, as many would agree. Thankfully, however, she'd recovered quickly and was back running through the woods in no time at all. Nahi smiled at his offer to keep her company. Not many people fancied waking up early and digging through the dirt to find a bunch of roots and crap. "I'd like help. You'll have to get up at the crack of dawn, though."
Pasha offerred her is jacket. Nahimana nodded once, out of instinct. Her mother was very traditional and said that a lady should accept what a man offers, within reason. If he offered you his jacket, for one, you should accept. "Yes, thank you." She blinked at his last comment. Most girls might look into it. Naive little Nahi, however, wouldn't. "All the same. You're too nice to have to come visit me!"

“I have no problems getting up early,” he said with a shrug, “What else am I going to do anyway? I've got more than enough time for sleeping so...” He let his voice trail off, that conversation was going no where anyway. “Feel free to stop by my tent and see if I'm up. I don't bite,” he added causally. He probably would be up, he normally awoke at strange hours in the morning and went to bed at strange hours in the night after all. It would be a nice change of pace to be up with someone and have another person to talk to.
Pasha quickly draped his coat over her shoulders when she accepted the offer. It was far to big for her but he didn't think she would mind. It was a little cooler than he had thought it was going to be, but he had dressed warmly. He could deal with the cold easily, besides that it wasn't right to let Nahi be cold while he was very warm. The dark haired girl blinked at his last comment and he noticed it. He hoped she hadn't taken offense to that, girls were complicated and he had a hard time figuring out what they thought was sweet and what they didn't like still. He blushed a little, but before he could say anything along the lines of an apology she stuck with her first point. He smiled, it was nice to have someone say something nice about him for a change. He felt that around camp he went mostly unnoticed, this was a nice change of pace. “I'll walk you to were ever you need to go,” he offered, he knew she could probably find her way around by herself but it seemed like a nice gesture.
((OOC: Do you want to have Pasha walk Nahi back to where ever it is that she sleeps and then close this topic and/or start a new one for the next morning?))
