The otter looked lazily around the crowd of slaves and their captors. She had no worries of selling her top slave, and was sure that she would get buyers quite soon. Yes, it was sad to sell this slave, but she was moving back to her home country to be with her parents, and they already had a cook.
Beside the otter stood a young man, of about nineteen. He wore clean, respectable clothes, and had washed himself before they had come here. Many animals didn't want a cook to be disgustingly dirty while their food was being prepared. Anyways, as the otter had said, if he was clean, he could probably fetch a better price.
Zane stood without cage or chain, being trustworthy enough to go shopping for food and come back home, let alone stand next to his captor whilst being inspected by buyers. He stood with his shoulders back and head held high, with a nice smile on his face.
He didn't mind being nothing better than a tool, as long as he pleased his captor, everything would be alright.

Nika strolled through the way looking at the slaves, seeing if any one caught her eye. She had some money in her pocket and it was burning a hole in it. She had had a good fight the other night, a good enough one she had won a lot of bets, and collected on a few of them. She was going to be having the biggest fights of the year soon.
The wolverine wasn't looking for anyone really. She had an eye out for fighters or strong females though. What she really wanted was a female fighter or two, that fight would bring a lot more captors around and would bring her a good deal of money. Still a young man who stood without cage or chain was the one that caught her eye.
“What's he do?” she asked looking him up and down. As she looked him up and down she noticed his eyes. She knew the line that carried eyes like that, and she liked the looks of it. They were fighters, and good ones at that. She held his eyes in her gaze and stared him down as she asked the otter another question. “Why don't you tell me about his lines while your at it.”

The otter's eyes lit up as a large wolverine made her way over.
“What's he do?”
The otter quickly answered "He is an excellent cook, waiter, or butler. He has perfect manners, and will do any job without a complaint. His main goal in life is to serve." The otter was happy that she didn't even have to lie with Zane -- he was nearly perfect.
“Why don't you tell me about his lines while your at it.”
"His father was a professional fighter, and his mother was very well known in shows. His bloodline is pure and some of the best." The otter smiled, hoping that she had a sale. She wanted to get home and start packing.
"You can have him for 400." The otter believed her price to be quite fair.
Zane listened to the otter and wolverine talk. He let the wolverine look at his eyes without turning away, staying quite still, and waited to see if the sale would be made.

That was a fair price, though for the info the otter gave it seemed a little steep. Nika knew that it was a steal for the boy, she knew exactly who his father was, his mother not so much though. It didn't matter to her though. She knew full well that she could simply buy him, she knew that would be the best thing to do. Part of her wanted to haggle on the price a bit more. Instead she compromised and decided to look at the boy a bit more.
Slowly she walked about him, looking at his muscle structure, his build, checking to see if he was flat footed or there were any other physical problems with him. Was there a reason he wasn't a fighter, she wondered. She found it hard to believe that with his lines he wasn't.
“How do you feel about fights and that sort of thing, boy?” she asked, completely ignoring the otter for the moment. She wanted to see what the boy was like, though she was going to buy him either way. She could use a cook to help her feed the fighters and the rest of her lot. On top of that, she could get Baravelli to sell food instead of work as a debt collector for her. It would be easier for the little one to pick pocket that way as well.
